On Sunday night, we took a ride to the fire lookout at Devil’s Peak. We started around 5:30, hoping to be done around 8 or 8:30. After breaks and impromptu photo shoots we ended up riding back closer to 9:30. The moon was gorgeous and, though we wanted to be home earlier, we were really enjoying our night ride.
It was lucky our ride ended up lasting longer than planned, because as we turned a corner heading back towards Tenaya, we saw a flashlight waving in the darkness. Two people were walking along Summit Road trying to get back to Highway 41. They had planned a trip to Yosemite and had booked a night at Yosemite Lodge when their navigation app took them down Summit Road. At first they considered it a bit of an adventure , then realized the four wheel drive road might be a bit much for their small rental vehicle. Unfortunately, when they realized this the car had already gotten stuck. So, they turned around and walked towards the highway until they saw us. Since they were still a good four to five miles away from 41, we promised to pick them up after our ride.
Once we got back to the truck we loaded up the bikes and jumped in, heading for Summit Road. We picked them up and took them to Tenaya so they could have a place to stay for the night.
